A bit about me
My name is Amy, and I’m really pleased to be working as a SEND Parent Advocate in partnership with Clear View Education.
I have always worked in the public sector first within the Criminal Justice system as a Probation Officer, and for the last few years in education, where I’ve worked in teacher training and school governance.
As a SEND parent myself, I am passionate about supporting and empowering other families navigating similar challenges. The journey can be long, often difficult, and at times isolating, and I truly hope that my experience can help others feel less alone and more equipped.
I’ve completed the SEN Action Parent Advocacy Training Programme and bring a strong working knowledge of the current education system. Over the years as a SEND parent, I also have lived experience in areas such as Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA), neurodivergence, and mental health challenges in children—particularly anxiety.
In both my professional and personal life I have experience engaging with a wide range of services and professionals, including schools, the Local Authority, CAMHS, the Mental Health in Schools Team, Clear View Education, private psychologists, and Psicon (an organisation that completes ADHD and Autism assessments through the Right to Choose process). I’ve also visited numerous Specialist and Alternative Provisions across Dorset.
Additionally, I have personal experience of completing a parental EHC Needs Assessment, securing an EOTAS package, and navigating the Right to Choose process for obtaining assessments and diagnoses of neurodivergence.
I look forward to using this knowledge to support other families on their SEND journey.
